Wedding Invitations
So you are engaged!
Many congratulations to you and your fiancé. Now the planning begins! Of course there are so many different aspects to consider when planning your wedding, the biggest of which are choosing a date, and choosing the venue. Once you have those taken care of, we suggest you start thinking about your wedding invitations. Some people think, it’s just the invite, people just toss it after they look at it once. On the contrary!
The wedding invitation is the single part of your wedding with the longest time of use.
Think about it, the paper invites are the first thing that your guests see that relates to your big day, and often they will keep this invitation until the actual wedding day when they need to refer to the directions card or other details. Many sentimental guests often keep the invite as their official memorabilia from your wedding. The invitation is also what sets the tone for your whole event. You can establish your color scheme, the level of formality, the theme, depending on how personal you want to get, you can even convey some fun details about who you are!
So how do you get started?
There are a few things you might consider before coming to see one of our designers. First, is there a theme or overall concept you are trying to convey with your wedding? This can be based on the venue you have chosen, it can also be based on particular interests you and your fiancé have, or some special way you want to tell your story to your friends and family. Another aspect to consider is your colors—these can be based the season, the fashion trends, or your personal preference! Now, call us or email us to make an appointment! You are more than welcome to bring your notes, sketches, clippings, or nothing at all with you to your consultation appointment with one of our wedding invitation designers.
Something that is helpful for deciding when to start your wedding invitation process is the following timeline:
- SAVE THE DATE - 4-6 months prior; with any travel information your guests may need in advance.
- WEDDING INVITATIONS - Order at least one month before mailing to allow time to address, stuff etc. Mail 6-8 weeks prior. Ask for guests to R.S.V.P. 2-4 weeks prior; provide postage on envelope.
- MENU / PROGRAMS / PLACECARDS - Order at least 2-3 weeks before the wedding day.
- THANK YOUS – Order at the same time as invites, or at the same time as the Day of items. Send within 6 months following your wedding.
When thinking about your wedding invitation design, there are some basic characteristics for you to think about.
First, the size—do you prefer a square or a rectangular shape? Squares do require extra postage, so keep this in mind when deciding. However, if you do take the time to do the math, the difference in postage won’t be the think that breaks your wedding budget! So we recommend you choose what you like best. If you like rectangular, you will want to consider whether you prefer a portrait orientation or a landscape orientation. Also, do you think you will have multiple inserts that can easily be housed in a pocket invitation design? There are many pocket/pouch options available to you and these can be customized in many ways.
Next, you should know that there are many different wedding invitation options open to you.
As bride and groom to be, you have a lot of options, and you should feel confident that you can get what you are looking for. You can purchase the paper materials only, and be on your merry way, free to print and create your own wedding invites!
